Some reasons behind hard bounces are:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The email address doesn\u2019t exist.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The email address\u2019s domain name is invalid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your recipient\u2019s mail server doesn\u2019t exist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/blog\/email\/email-deliverability-audit\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Email delivery isn\u2019t possible<\/a> in these examples because there isn\u2019t anything to deliver to in the first place. The only thing you can do to avoid hard bounces is validating and verifying your email list. Pretty vague, right?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The good news is that this means you might be able to fix the issue and help your email land in the inbox.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some common reasons for soft bounces are:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You\u2019ve had too many hard bounces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ve had too many spam complaints.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your server is blocklisted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You have low user engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your recipient\u2019s inbox is full.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You send too many messages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The receiving internet service provider (ISP) is having connectivity problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what does an ESP do about it? Here at Mailgun, we\u2019ll attempt delivery a few more times after it bounces. But to keep your sender reputation intact, we\u2019ll stop after several delivery attempts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There isn\u2019t a one size fits all solution for soft bounces, but let\u2019s go over the common reasons mentioned above and explore ways in which you can troubleshoot your soft bounces.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can I troubleshoot my soft bounces?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need to look at the root cause of the soft bounce to increase your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/es\/blog\/deliverability\/puedes-garantizar-mejor-entregabilidad-email\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">email deliverability<\/a> and protect your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/es\/blog\/deliverability\/google-postmaster-tools-entender-reputacion-como-remitente\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sender reputation<\/a>, so here are some common reasons for soft bounces and how to troubleshoot them.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You\u2019ve had too many hard bounces<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Okay, so above, we said that you couldn\u2019t really do anything about hard bounces, which is true. But you can do your best to prevent them by validating your subscribers\u2019 emails and maintaining your mailing list hygiene.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is important because if you have a high bounce rate, you\u2019ll send a red flag to ISPs that you\u2019re sending to a poor mailing list and might be spammy. Prune that mailing list to deliver relevant content to subscribers who want your messages to avoid this.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll also want to protect your sign-up forms to prevent some of these non-existent email address from making it into your email list in the first place. <a href=\"\/products\/inbox\/email-verification\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Email verification tools like Mailgun\u2019s<\/a> enable you to validate addresses during the sign up process.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You\u2019ve had too many spam complaints<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not all subscribers want your messages. If they don\u2019t remember signing up for your list or if they can\u2019t find an unsubscribe button, they may mark your message as spam.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/es\/blog\/deliverability\/evitar-emails-vayan-spam\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spam complaints<\/a> send a red flag to service providers. Some ISPs, like Yahoo, state in their bounce message that your email is temporarily deferred due to user complaints.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reduce spam complaints and avoid the spam filter by using a double opt-in subscription option. This ensures your subscribers know they\u2019re signing up for your mailing list. In addition, offer a clear way to unsubscribe by ensuring all your emails include an easy-to-find unsubscribe link. This way, your email recipients won\u2019t mark your messages as \u201cspam.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your server is blocklisted<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/es\/blog\/deliverability\/ip-dedicadas-frente-a-compartidas-cual-usar\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IP reputation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/es\/blog\/deliverability\/google-postmaster-tools-entender-reputacion-como-remitente\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">domain reputation<\/a> are important factors determining your email\u2019s deliverability. ISPs may blocklist your IP or domain based on your sender reputation. This means they won\u2019t deliver messages sent from your IP address or domain.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After identifying and addressing the root issues for the blocklisting, you can either request a de-listing or wait for automatic removal.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You have low user engagement<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some ISPs interpret low user engagement to mean that your emails don\u2019t contain high-quality content. This, in turn, can result in a soft bounce. Employ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/es\/blog\/deliverability\/fomentar-interaccion-estrategica-email\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">strategic engagement<\/a> by targeting specific audiences and use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/es\/blog\/email\/segmentacion-lista-contactos\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">list segmentation<\/a> to be more relevant to your subscribers.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, as always, It\u2019s good practice to occasionally prune your mailing lists to remove disengaged users.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your recipient\u2019s inbox is full<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most common soft bounce reasons is that your recipient\u2019s inbox is full. This usually means your recipient provided an email address they frequently use for unwanted marketing promotions.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can fix this issue by cleaning up your mailing list, employing segmentation, and ensuring your users double opt in to your emails. You\u2019ll also want to ensure your emails provide value to the reader \u2013 this way, they won\u2019t want to miss your messages in their inbox.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You send too many messages<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We know sending too many emails to senders that have previously opted in is not really <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/es\/blog\/deliverability\/velocidad-envio-spam-2\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">spamming<\/a>, but\u2026let\u2019s be honest, sometimes it does feel a bit like that.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maintain a consistent volume for your messages, and don\u2019t send emails too often.
