As someone who\u2019s helped dozens of companies big and small through this process, I can tell you it\u2019s never exactly the same twice.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>But there are some consistent truths.<\/b> The companies that migrate smoothly are the ones who start with a plan, ask the right questions, and work closely with us to get it right. Here are my top five tips for migration prep:<\/p>\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Set expectations internally and externally.<\/b> If you&#8217;re a martech offering sending services to your own customers, it\u2019s on <i>you<\/i> to implement limitations and rules that protect your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/pt\/blog\/deliverability\/melhorar-reputacao-remetente\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sender reputation<\/a>. We\u2019ll help you build those expectations into your platform and processes. This includes helping you answer the question: \u201cWhat does it mean to maintain a good reputation on Mailgun?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Plan account configuration and access early.<\/b> Will your customers manage their own email activity, or will you do it for them? Will they need login access? At the other end of the spectrum with larger assets, the process can take 4\u20135 months, thanks to redundant systems and deep testing requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start with the right expectations<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Migration is always about management. Sometimes that\u2019s management of expectations, sometimes management of users, but mostly it\u2019s a combination of many factors. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, martechs are responsible for their behavior on the platform, and that includes the sending reputations of the customers under their umbrella; their sending practices, their list quality, and whether or not they follow basic email standards.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too often I\u2019ve seen martech clients open up their email platform with little oversight. They don\u2019t vet their users or communicate the rules. That creates major problems for their sender reputation. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the first things we\u2019ll do is help you build a clear framework for your users, including usage limits, sending policies, and guidance you can pass along.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One client, for example, needed a way to safely onboard their own customers to Mailgun. Some siphon traffic in gradually. Others flip everything at once. We&#8217;ll help you choose the right method based on your platform, your users, and your risk tolerance.&#8221;        <\/blockquote>\r\n\r\n            <\/div>\r\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be ready to answer some questions<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are the types of things we\u2019ll ask you to be ready to talk about:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>What kind of emails are you sending? <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/pt\/blog\/email\/e-mail-transacional-heroi-anonimo\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transactional messages<\/a> like password resets are different than marketing campaigns. How are you breaking down your sending, what are your needs?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Do you have a website, privacy policy, and documented <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/pt\/blog\/deliverability\/como-criar-lista-e-mails-jeito-certo\/#subchapter-3%20\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>opt-in process<\/b><\/a><b>? <\/b>Security is a big deal for us, and so is compliance. When we migrate customers we make sure our policies align to protect the reputation of all our senders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Can you import a suppression list? <\/b>In other words, are your tracking who you shouldn\u2019t be sending too?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Do you know your current engagement rates? <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/blog\/product\/engagement-validation-data\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Opens, clicks, bounces, unsubscribes<\/a> \u2013 if you\u2019re not tracking this already, we\u2019ll help you set a baseline. But coming in blind makes it hard to compare performance post-migration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>How do you maintain list hygiene?<\/b>Are you cleaning out unengaged contacts? Do you have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mailgun.com\/pt\/blog\/deliverability\/politicas-de-sunset-destinatarios-nao-engajados\/\" target=\"_tabs\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sunset policy<\/a>? Healthy lists are the foundation of good deliverability, and we\u2019ll want to know how you manage yours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These basics help us avoid surprises later. If someone tells us during a compliance review that they\u2019re purchasing lists, or that they don\u2019t have any engagement data, we know there\u2019s work to do.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Top pain points to watch out for<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even experienced teams get caught off guard by these:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Customer behavior and reputation risks: <\/b>If your clients send emails through your platform, <i>you<\/i> own the reputation. Too many forget this. We recommend best practices for dashboard rules, customer onboarding documentation, and usage limits-helping you establish safeguards to keep your domains protected. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Purchased lists: <\/b>Don\u2019t buy an email list. Like seriously, not ever. If you\u2019re managing email sends for clients and suspect they have purchased a list, we can advise on how to safely continue sending.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>No engagement tracking:<\/b> Metrics matter, and they can tell us a lot about how to best set up your email program.
