SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)

SMTP is the internet standard protocol used to send email messages from one server to another. It’s how most email gets from point A (the sender) to point B (the recipient’s mail server), and it’s a core piece of infrastructure in any email delivery system.

SMTP handles outbound email only. Once a message reaches the recipient’s server, other protocols like IMAP or POP take over to deliver it to the inbox.
