Seed test

Seed test

A seed test involves sending a preview of your email campaign to a curated list of test addresses (called seed addresses) across different mailbox providers, spam filters, and geographies. The goal? To see where your emails land – inbox, spam, promotions tab, or not at all – before you send to your actual list.

This helps brands:

  • Spot authentication or reputation issues early
  • Identify deliverability problems with specific mailbox providers
  • Compare inbox placement across IPs or domains

But here’s the catch:

Seed testing is only a directional signal. It doesn’t represent real engagement or subscriber behavior, and mailbox providers don’t treat seed inboxes the same as actual recipients. Use it alongside real performance data (like open rates, bounce logs, and complaint rates), not instead of it.
