Personal Folders File (. PST)
Personal Folders File (. PST)
A .PST (Personal Storage Table) file is used by Microsoft Outlook to store copies of emails, calendar events, contacts, and other mailbox content locally on a device. Think of it as a personal archive that lives outside the mail server – handy when you’re running low on server storage or want to back up important messages.
By creating a .PST file, users can:
- Free up space in their Exchange mailbox
- Organize emails into custom folders
- Search past messages without relying on an internet connection
- Combine content from multiple inboxes (or keep things neatly separated)
While .PST files offer flexibility and control, they can also be a bit of a wildcard; if not regularly backed up, they’re prone to corruption or loss. Proceed with caution, and don’t forget that modern alternatives like cloud-based archiving often offer more security and less drama.
