Automated emails

Automated emails

Automated emails are email messages automatically sent by a CRM or software, usually triggered by a user’s actions.

Let’s say a brand collaborates with an email service provider (ESP) to set up automated emails to remind customers about abandoned carts. When a user browses a brand’s website and adds an item to their shopping cart – but they leave the brand’s web page without purchasing the product – the user will receive a follow-up email reminding them that they left their cart behind, incentivizing them to complete their purchase.

Note: Automated, triggered, and transactional are not all synonyms. Automated and triggered emails can also be transactional, but transactional emails are those related to a specific transaction and typically limited to the 4 Ps (parcels/shipping notifications, payment receipts, password resets, or policy updates).
