Frequently asked questions

When you sign up for a paid plan, you're charged a prorated amount for the current month. After that, your monthly plan fee plus any overage (extra emails or validations used) is billed at the start of each month for the previous month. If you cancel, any remaining balance is charged before your account closes.

You can keep sending — you'll just pay an overage rate for the extras. Overage rates vary by plan:

  • Basic: From $1.80 / 1,000 emails; From $1.20 / 100 validations
  • Foundation: From $1.30 / 1,000 emails; From $1.20 / 100 validations
  • Scale: From $1.10 / 1,000 emails; From $0.80 / 100 validations

The more you send, the lower your per-email rate. If you're consistently hitting your limit, upgrading is usually the more cost-effective option.

Yes. Foundation and Scale plans both include a free first month so you can explore the full feature set before you're billed. The free plan is also available with no time limit — you get 100 emails per day to test the platform at your own pace.
Yes, any time. Go to your account settings to upgrade whenever you're ready for more volume or more features.
Scale plans include 5,000 validations per month. On Basic and Foundation plans, validations are available as an add-on. Enterprise customers can negotiate custom volume as part of a contract.
Each client or device you test against counts as one preview. So if you run a test across 100 clients and devices, that uses 100 previews. Keep this in mind before your first test, especially if you're testing across a wide range of clients.
Your Inspect trial includes 1,000 previews. Depending on how many clients you test per run, that can go faster than you'd expect.
Create a preview profile — a saved set of just the clients and devices you actually care about. That way every test only uses the previews you need, rather than running across every available client by default.
Once you hit your 1,000-preview allotment, you enter overage and are billed $0.15 per preview. If you go significantly over, Mailgun will pause your usage to protect you from an unexpectedly large bill — but some overage may still accrue before the pause kicks in.
The usage counter doesn't update instantly, so it may lag slightly during heavy testing. Don't use it as a live meter — set up preview profiles in advance to stay within your allotment.
Click your name in the top-right corner and open Plan & Billing. From there you can add a preview refresh or upgrade to a paid Inspect subscription with higher volume. If you need a custom volume, contact our sales team — contract pricing comes with a much lower cost per preview.
Every plan except Free and Basic lets you add as many users as you need at no additional cost. Free plans are limited to one user. Inspect has unlimited user seats on all plans, regardless of how many people on your team need access.
