Here’s a Concept – Free Plan Versus Concept Plan

Some say the best things in life are free, and it’s hard to disagree with that notion sometimes. Free things are great! Free t-shirts, free food, free trials – it’s hard to say no to free. We agree that free is awesome, which is why we have two free options for you to choose from: the Free plan and the Concept plan.

But what exactly is the difference? ICYMI, we made a video explaining the differences between the plans for your viewing pleasure. But if you’re without headphones at your desk or in the mood for some light reading, we’ve got you covered right here.

Two Free Options – The Similarity and the Differences

Both of our Free and Concept plans are, well, free. You don’t have to pay a dime for either plan, and you get 10,000 emails per month for free on both plans. If you’re trying Mailgun out for the first time, those 10,000 emails are sounding pretty good. So, what’s the big deal with Concept if you get the same number of emails?

Our Free plan allows you to set up a sending domain, get an API Key, and send testing emails. All of that is great as you get started, but you can only send to authorized recipients. Meaning they have to let us know that they’re okay with getting emails from you before they start seeing what you’re sending.

Conversely, our Concept Plan offers you those 10,000 emails per month and a little extra. For starters, you can send to all of your contacts – no need to confirm with us. On top of that, you can validate up to 100 recipient emails with our email validation to be sure that the people you’re sending to are real people, not robots or misspelled addresses.

However, that’s only the beginning of the Concept Plan. Should anything happen to your email delivery, you can spot issues with the 5 days of log retention included in the Concept Plan. Plus, you get access to advanced email analytics, so you can see metrics like device type, location, and even hourly performance. All that insight allows you to adjust strategy and see where your audience is actually engaging with you, and that’s always better than sending emails with no idea how they’re performing.

The Requirement for Concept

To access all of Concept’s features, you need to add a credit card to your account. Now before you angry tweet us about a free plan not really being free, slow down and take a second to breathe – you aren’t getting charged for anything!

Concept is 100% free to use for the first 10,000 emails each month, but that credit card info helps prove to us that you aren’t some scammer looking to blast out bogus Nigerian prince emails via Mailgun. You get more features; we prevent spammers – everyone is happy!

Bottom Line – Concept is just better.

Sure, we’re a little bias to the Concept plan, but who wouldn’t be? Concept is like the email version of an extra free scoop of ice cream on an already free sundae – that much sweeter. And hey, whether you plan on setting up transactional email or you’re gearing up to start a new email marketing campaign, Mailgun’s Concept plan is ready. If you’re ever looking to grow outside of the plan, we’ve got you; and if not, we’ve still got you. So what’re you waiting for? We’re ready when you are.
